23 Broad Street
(no reservations, no credit cards)

We used to go to this restaurant almost every year, and really don't understand its appeal. It is an inexpensive sandwich and simple dinner place where you can take your family and have a beer, if you can get waited on, but the food is of the freezer to deep fryer variety, and the service is equally indifferent. On an island where restaurants pride themselves on the excellence of their clam chowder, theirs is weak, watery and tasteless, and outside of their hamburgers (which themselves are dry) we can't recommend anything else on the menu. The fish and chips are particularly indifferent, resembling deep fried cardboard. Since they take no reservations, you always have to wait in line outside, and since they take no credit cards, you need to be prepared with cash.
If you are looking for a good family restaurant, we recommend Arno's, Sophie T's Pizza, or the Tap Room.
